Well I finally got the call from Dr P today. 12 of the eggs fertilized, although he said that only 10 fertilized normally. I asked him what that meant and he gave me a pretty ambiguous response saying "Well we'll continue to monitor them and see how things go". So I don't know if I should hold out hope for those two little embryos or just concentrate on the 10 that fertilized "normally" and hope the majority of them make it to day 3. Dr P said that Womack and Carolina IVF have a higher success rate with day 3 transfers so we're going with that. We also want Brandon to be there for the procedure and if we wait until day 5 he will not be able to participate.
Before I started this cycle my expectations were a little high. I wanted 6 embryos to freeze, 2 to transfer, for a total of 8. I can only hope that 8 of the 10 (or 12) make it to day 3 but my expectations are starting to lower a bit. I'm pretty confident that I won't get as many as I had originally expected. Now I'm just hoping for 6 to make it. I think that's still fairly reasonable.
Those results sound like a positive ER and fertilization. I hope you get 6 totsicles. It is totally reasonable. I am so glad the ICSI went well too. By the time they take mine you'll be close to POAS! I guess you transfer will be tomorrow have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHi Christa, I'm Krista. Happened upon the link to your blog from the fertilethoughts military issues forum, where I used to be a regular but now only drop in every blue moon or so. Just wanted to encourage you, sounds like you've had great results. I'm a military spouse too and cycled at WR twice before deciding to go civilian for our third cycle. We had MUCH better results with this cycle as far as egg quality and sheer numbers go. Awaiting my beta, which is tomorrow. Anyway, I loved reading your posts. You have a great sense of humor. I also have a very neglected and not so creatively named blog, but decided not to post info on my recent cycle, though I did blog about my past cycles on another forum. Where are you from in NC? I'm from a little dot on the map just north of where you're staying -- Lillington. Seems we have a lot in common. Anyway, I hope you have a very successful transfer and a healty pregnancy. Oh, and the best thing I've found for IVF constipation is a Starbucks grande decaf cappucino with nonfat milk. Works every time!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! If it were me, I would concentrate on the 10, but only because doing so doesn't set you up to be disappointed about the other two. Either way, those are great numbers. There are LOTS of opportunities there!
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping my fingers crossed that they all make it to day 3! How many will they implant? Is there a standard number they implant? So if 10 were naturally fertilized, the other 2 were injected with the sperm? Do you know how they choose which sperm were inserted? Sorry if I am asking too many questions. Following your journey is making me feel much more at ease for when we start our journey later this year. I guess it is also bringing many questions along with it. :)
ReplyDeleteWell we chose ICSI so they should have all been injected with sperm. I don't know why the two didn't fertilize normally. One of the other girls explained that maybe the cells aren't dividing as they should or something like that. She told us to expect those two to not make it. So right now we're just focusing on the 10. I would like to transfer two, which Dr P agrees with. 1 to 2 is ideal for my age group and for first time IVF patients
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the numbers so much, cause 10 is better than zero. That is a very, very good report! Good luck, not that you want luck to have anything to do with you, you paid a lot for pure science .... you know what I mean.
ReplyDeletePetal, that's a great fert report! 10 is a great number, I only had 6 fertilised the last time (they got 9 eggs, 7 mature and 6 fertilised). You really need two good ones to transfer and everything else is a bonus. i have everything crossed for you. Fran
ReplyDelete10 sounds like a great number to me!! I had a similar issue with my first cycle when 8 fertilised and 2 were a bit behind but also made it. Keep thinking positive and in no time at all you will be in the 2ww!!!
ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for you!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your transfer. Sticky Vibes
ReplyDeleteHere from LFCA to wish you lots of good luck for the transfer! Your numbers sound really good to me. I hope everything goes well.
ReplyDeleteHi! Me again! Just wanted to tell you about the intralipid: it's the first line of action if you have some borderline immuno-issue. For me I suppose is just to be on the safe side, not sure I really need them. People with serious immuno issues will do the IViG which is much more expensive. Love, Fran
